Launching Sparkling Mindz International Preschool

We are very excited and happy to announce the Sparkling Mindz International Preschool starting from Feb 2014.

A free parent session is being held on 22nd Dec 2013 to explain the concept of the multiple intelligence and neuro linguistic programming based preschool.

The art of asking questions

The question children ask is the true driver of learning. When they ask questions, children are really trying to engage and make meaning out of the world around them. When we brush that aside we are not really making any true learning happen.

So, what do you do when they ask questions you don't know answers to? Good question.
First step is to stop trying to become their Google's and Encyclopedia's. In fact, they do a really great job of providing the information that they have. The point is learning how to ask the right questions for the information that you are seeking.

Your role, as a parent today is increasingly to guide your child increasingly to ask the right kind of questions and to enable them to use technology and other available resources at their disposal to get their answers. In the process, equipping them to remain critical of the information they are receiving and check for authenticity.

A child thus equipped, will not be disillusioned with the society, parents or teachers for their lack of answers, instead will keep his quest of knowledge and information alive and enrich his life and the lives of others around him!

Lets re-kindle the art of asking questions in our children. If not for the sake of them, at least for the sake of ourselves!

Going beyond the 3R's towards Learning

As a parent you are increasingly realizing today that it is not enough that your child does not fall behind on the 3R's - Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. I know you will agree with me that some of that stuff there is hard as it is - getting them to read, write and do math on their own with interest and develop the skill...phew! All that is tough enough and you are saying it is not enough?

Learning does not have to be tough and boring. If engagement is created then children enjoy the learning process and are happier to focus and push themselves to do better at any skill. So education should go beyond the 3R's and look at the key engagement of our children for true learning to happen.

What then should we be teaching our children if not the 3R's. The 3R's are still required, but do not define the learning as a whole. We need to start focusing on the 21st Century Skills of Creative & Critical Thinking, Communication & Collaboration, Metacognition & Motivation and so on.

When a child is excited to learn, is able to think, communicate & collaborate, knows how to prioritize, motivate themselves and is aware of their own strengths, weaknesses, values then we can truly create leaders in their own right who are innovators, problem solvers and effective decision makers.

We can do with a lot of such future leaders TODAY!
