Just another day at school, it's almost the end of the day and we are sitting in CWE (Citizenship World and Entrepreneurship) learning area, in our class. Some of us not comfortable, some of us shocked, some of us confused and some of us excited because we were going to watch a video about a transgender man and a cisgender queer woman, in love.
Different thoughts and different beliefs - all of them settling down to view this through a different perspective, a fresh one . The play button was hit and the class was quiet and you could hear nothing but the voices in the video. There are two people on the stage and they start,
"I am a transgender man and that means that the F in my birth certificate should have stood for False!"
This line itself made an impact in our minds , we were touched that when you know you are not feeling yourself and you are not sure and you sometimes and most of the times have no one to tell. The video is playing and suddenly ‘pause....!’ and it stopped. Heads up - this happened a lot during the video cause we had to discuss the troubling thoughts in our heads, and thoughts that made a difference. There is pin drop silence and we are so into the video, drowned in our own thoughts. All of us so connected with ourselves at this moment. Throughout the video all of us are connecting things, understanding their view, realizing true meanings, and we looking back at our relationships.
The video had ended after sometime and as soon as that happened the class went "Ma’am ......ma’am .....ma’am...!" All of us waiting to get our thoughts across. One of us went "Ma’am, it was just amazing to see some one stand up for themselves in a world where they are often rejected...I mean wow that’s some confidence!" Then someone else went, "So this it what it feels like when someone is on the verge of losing hope and they find some one who accepts them the way they are".
We realized some beautiful things. Then one of us said "Ma’am, now I understand the true meaning of love and true relationships", and someone goes "Ma’am I can connect it to my relationships and realized how people can be so wrong with the whole idea of relationships."
Ma’am was elated at this moment, and glad to see us learn and take away so much from the video, and how we were connecting it to various things. Even though she watched it the second time she could not keep away, she said, "Isn’t it just beautiful?!" Even we couldn’t keep away and one of us went "It's so beautiful, the idea of creating possibilities not only for yourself and others too". Then one of us went "Ma’am I really understood that every one deserves love and we need to learn to hold that space for everyone."
By now the whole class was in ‘awe’ and we had thoughts, very interesting ones and we made it clear that love is not a status or a game, its not about what people think and that it is the trust and the commitment the relationship holds. Well it ended here but it opened new windows, deep thoughts and we were inspired, a part of us was still here taking a deep breath overwhelmed .
What's Next? Well this was really to helpful for us as we made observations and realizations that were important. Apart for this, we explored new options and it gave a us more information so we can develop our own opinions and beliefs based on facts and not assumptions and judgments. Also, to go by one of our core values to be empathetic towards this large scale of humans and to accept them where they lie.
