At Sparkling Mindz Global School, our Year of Discovery (YODA) invites children to explore the world within, not just the one outside.
It’s a three-year journey designed to help young people discover their passions, their fears, their purpose, and their power to create meaning in the world.
Why the Year of Discovery?
By the time children turn 16 or 17, they’ve walked through years of learning, expectations, and transitions. But how often do they get to pause and ask:
“Who am I becoming?”
“What truly drives me?”
“What do I want to stand for in this world?”
YODA was born from this need, as an extension to our school till 10th grade they walk a path of purpose and curiosity, to create a space where learning moves beyond marks and milestones, and begins to nurture a deep sense of purpose, courage, and self-awareness. Because at Sparkling Mindz, we believe the journey through adolescence shouldn’t be about choosing a stream, it should be about discovering a direction.
What Do Learners Experience?
The Year of Discovery is a 3 year program that weaves together:
* Cambridge AS & A Levels (in Years 2 & 3)
* Entrepreneurial projects that solve real-world challenges
* Purpose-based research and showcases
* Self-learning modules that build agency and independence
* Mentorship journeys that nurture emotional and intellectual growth
Every child creates a living portfolio, a reflection of who they are and what they’re learning to become.
But perhaps the most powerful experiences are those that stretch them, moments where learning meets life.
Meeting The Sky: A Journey Through Paragliding
Last week, our YODAs took a leap, quite literally.
They went on a Basic Paragliding course with Temple Pilots in Kamshet, Pune, not as an adventure trip, but as a carefully designed fear-to-courage learning journey.
For many, it started with hesitation.
“The idea of running off a mountain sounded unreal,”
At Temple Pilots, they weren’t just taught how to fly. They learned to listen to the wind, to their glider, to their instructors, and to themselves.
* They discovered what it means to:
* Stay calm under pressure
* Follow instructions with trust
* Fail, pause, and try again without judgment
* Build courage like a muscle
They shared - “The hardest part was not the take-off or landing, reflected,It was calming my mind before stepping into something high-stakes. But once I did… everything flowed. I felt aligned, capable, unleashed.”
Every child returned transformed, not just with a certificate, but with a story of courage they had written themselves.
For YODAs, paragliding is not an isolated experience.
It is one of many powerful real-world laboratories we design for our learners to discover their inner world through lived experiences.
Each project, journey, and challenge is crafted around our 4-D Framework:
* Entrepreneurship – Bringing ideas to life
* Purpose – Finding the “why” behind every action
* Self-Learning & Research – Building independence and curiosity
* Showcase – Sharing meaningful work with authenticity and pride
Whether through changemaker missions, sustainability projects, research showcases, or reflective writing, every experience is a step in helping children meet themselves - with courage, compassion, and clarity.
How It Shapes Children
Over the three years, children begin to:
* Build emotional resilience by confronting and working through fears
* Develop clarity of purpose through exploration and guided mentorship
* Strengthen self-trust and independence through research and self-learning
