It was the city they saw every day, but had never truly explored.
Children were taken out to the city to explore further. They went on a child in city walk, which opened up a lot of observations and tons of wonder questions. And those questions nudged them to look beyond the surface into stories, histories, lakes, people, and decisions that shaped the Bengaluru we live in today. They discovered stories of old lake systems, neighbourhoods built around water, markets and routes that shaped the city, communities that lived with care and responsibility.
Slowly, the city they once saw only on the surface began revealing layers of history, culture, decisions, and consequences. With this new understanding, a powerful idea emerged - “What if we help others see the city differently, too?”
This gave birth to Child in the City Heritage Walks.
Nine child-curated walks across Bengaluru.
Each walk was researched, scripted, trialled, and led by the children.
They explored water and old lake beds, heritage markets, architecture, community stories, and how the old city connects to the Bengaluru we live in today.
These walks helped children build a personal connection with their city, pride in its heritage, empathy for its communities, and a sense of responsibility for its future.
And for everyone who joined the walks, the city felt different, seen through the eyes of children who had learned to see deeply.
